Odesa has its own color of freedom. It cannot be reduced to a single shade — it was born from experimentation, inner independence, and artists’ desire to speak in their own language.

We invite you to the lecture “The Color of Freedom: Tradition and Experimentation in the Work of Odesa Artists” on August 29 at 4:00 PM. The lecture at the Korsaks’ Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art will be a conversation not only about artistic movements and names, but also about whether color can become a gesture of freedom and whether art can be a way of remaining free despite rules, systems, and the passage of time.

Lecturer — Maryna Ponomarenko (Kyiv), PhD in Art History.

The lecture will explore Odesa art of the 20th and 21st centuries: from the experiments of the 1910s–1920s to the Odesa underground of the 1960s–1980s, the New Ukrainian Wave, and contemporary post-conceptual practices.

Special attention will be given to color as an essential element of artistic language — from a means of emotional expression to an independent intellectual and conceptual structure within an artwork. We will trace how artists’ ideas about freedom, tradition, and experimentation changed from one generation to another.

This dialogue will bring together Sonia Delaunay, Oleh Sokolov, Yurii Yehorov, Yurii Kovalenko, Lev Mezhberg, Oleh Voloshynov, Moisei Chereshnia, Viktor Maryniuk, Volodymyr Strelnikov, Oleksandr Dmitriev, Valentyn Khrushch, Liudmyla Yastreb, Yevhen Rakhmanin, Oleksandr Roitburd, Yurii Leiderman, Stas Zhalobniuk, and other Odesa artists.

Korsaks Museum is turning 8! Let’s celebrate together!

From August 22 to 24, we have a special reason to meet in Lutsk at the Korsaks Museum — we’re celebrating our birthday!

We have prepared a special programme featuring guided tours, workshops, a science show, “Cosmogony,” and a special event dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Mykola Kumanovskyi’s birth.

August 22 & 23:

2:00 PM — guided tour for children with a physics and chemistry show at the Museum of Science and Technology

3:00 PM — linocut workshop at the Korsaks Museum

4:00 PM — immersive performance “Cosmogony”

5:00 PM — guided tour of the Korsaks Museum

Participation in all events on August 22–23 is included with the museum admission ticket.

August 24 | 5:00 PM — Korsaks Museum’s Birthday and Independence Day of Ukraine

On this day, we will present an audio guide to the Mykola Kumanovskyi exhibition — another way to discover the world of one of Volyn’s most important artists.

Following the presentation, Lesia Korsak and Zoia Navrotska will lead a curatorial tour of the Mykola Kumanovskyi Memorial Art Museum. We will talk about the artist, his personality, his work and imagery, and the legacy he left to Ukrainian culture.

Admission to the events on August 24 is free!

Korsaks’ Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art

On August 15 at 4:00 PM, Korsaks’ Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art will host the lecture “From Idea to Event: Organizing and Implementing Long-Term Recurring Art Projects.”

The lecturer is Oleksandr Nykytiuk, artist, art manager, and Chairman of the Board of the NGO “Laboratory of Contemporary Art.”

Using the International Land Art Festival “MYTHOGENESIS” and the Nathan Altman All-Ukrainian Contemporary Art Competition for Young Artists as examples, we will explore how an artistic idea develops into a long-term project, evolves over time, and remains relevant.

The Hub combines lectures and practical sessions on contemporary Ukrainian art, art management, and the development of cultural projects.
