Korsaks’ Museum of Ukrainian Contemporary Art invites you! On the third floor of the museum, we are opening the exhibition “Journeys” by Honored Artist of Ukraine Vyacheslav Hutyra. The exhibition consists of paintings and sculptures, united in 7 thematic series: “Journeys to Troy”, “Twelve”, “Seven”, “Rivers”, “Salt”, “Grandson”, and “War”.

The life of a person is a journey from the cradle to Eternity — this was how the essence of human life was formulated by ancient philosophers. But the journey of the artist is something special because, thanks to his talent, we begin to travel with him: in books, in films, on canvas, in the twists of graphics, through the texture of stone, wood, or metal.

Vyacheslav Hutyra invites us to such a Journey, with a capital letter. On the one hand, it is a journey through his native land, the former Great Steppe. And here, as an artist, he succeeds in immersing the viewer not only in his own memory but also in the primal memory of generations and great cultures-civilizations. The Great Steppe, in this sense, is a territory where Europe and Asia have met for centuries, where ancient Greeks traded with Scythians, and where the princes of Kievan Rus not only fought but also reconciled and intermarried with steppe peoples.

It is important that Vyacheslav Hutyra addresses the times of archaic through today’s lens, as a contemporary artist, using the appropriate visual language. He does not play with the past (you cannot play with your roots); he reflects on it and may even involuntarily, without emphasizing it, present himself as an artist-philosopher.

You can stand by his works, contemplating the meanings of existence and art, or you can immerse yourself in the powerful energy of these works, diving into the colors and receiving hedonistic pleasure.

This is the true journey through Art.
